Which performances from this year won’t even be nominated for an Oscar?

Which films are too unnoticed to be nominated for an Oscar?

What was Steve Tignor’s (Tennis.com) top match of 2010?

I’ve lost count of them all, so I’ll ask you: How will the top tennis players of 2010 be remembered (in photos)?

What are Sasha Stone’s (Awardsdaily.net) four favorite films of the year?

Who had some of the year’s breakout performances?

"Black Swan" surprised when it won the "Best Picture" prize at Austin, breaking "The Social Network's" winning streak

Okay, so there was a slight surprise today: Black Swan beat out

Oklahoma reinstated order when it awarded "The Social Network" top honors.

“Best Picture” juggernaut The Social Network for the top prize… And then that excitement dissipated when Oklahoma set things back into place with another “Best Picture” honor going to David Fincher’s film. The AFCA awarded the “Picture” and “Director” accolades to the same film, so it should be no surprise that Darren Aronofsky was named “Best Director” for his work on Black Swan. This same director-picture pairing occurred at the Oklahoma awards. Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and Christian Bale (The Fighter) continued their dominance in their respective races. Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) and Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) split the “Lead Actor” honors, and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and Mila Kunis (Black Swan) each took home a “Supporting Actress” award. Darren Aronofsky and his Black Swan received a record-setting 12 nominations from the BFCA this week, upgrading Mila Kunis to "contender" status for "Supporting Actress," among other categories.

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, in their 16th year, gave Darren Aronofsky’s much talked-about Black Swan a record-setting 12 nominations. In a close 2nd place are the Coen brothers’ remake of True Grit and British biopic The King’s Speech with 11 nominations each. In a surprising turn of events, Mila Kunis (Black Swan), Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom), and Jeremy Renner (The Town) are looking more likely to secure “Supporting” Oscar nominations in their respective categories. Noomi Repace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is also a pleasant addition to the “Lead Actress” race. However, she knocked out many critics’ favorites in Lesley Manville (Another Year) and Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right) from possible — and probably critical — nominations. The spurned actresses can take solace, though, in the fact that their bids would ultimately have been useless. If BFCA leans the same way in the “Best Actress” race it has for the past two years, it will most likely draw a tie between the race’s frontrunners, between “America’s Sweetheart” and “The Acclaimed Veteran” (i.e. Natalie Portman and Annette Bening).

The TFCA Awards butted heads with San Francisco over the top four acting performances of the year...

Both the Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) and the San Francisco Film Critics Circle (SFFCC) gave what is quickly becoming the runaway favorite for the “Best Picture” Oscar, The Social Network, even more support. Showering David Fincher’s film with “Best Picture” praise, the two awards organization only aligned in two other major categories — “Best Director” and “Best (Adapted) Screenplay.” Oddly enough, both gave David Fincher and Darren Aronofsky top or runner-up prizes (depending on the organization’s rules), as well as Sorkin the “Screenplay” prize, but the two organizations went in completely opposite directions for the rest of the categories.
